Rollin’ Nerdcore Style

November 2, 2012

First, I need to do a shout out to my friend, Howard James Dudy-JbHurr.

When he loaned me a laptop, Howard installed a mass amount of 8os new wave/punk music, something that hugely benefited last Friday’s Happy Hour gig at The Peacock Room.  For new readers, The Peacock Room is located in Orlando, Florida.

Because he had a thing for 80snew wave/punk  music, some guy requested it throughout my whole gig.  Usually, constant requests from the same person annoy me.  Yet, this guy and his friends kept tipping five dollars per song.

For this, I give huge thanks to Howard for hooking me up.  If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been receiving five dollar tips.

Another thing, this is why I sometimes like catering to older folks, they tip.  Some younger people will ask for songs all night or even ask you to change your playlist, and won’t tip you shit.  Won’t even buy you  a drink, either.

After my gig, a nerdcore event happened.  Nerdcore basically involves hip-hop lyrics centered around nerd subjects.

Before the show started, Xbox games provided by Ubisoft was on display.

Then came the entertainment.

First up was HD Ninja.

Then MC Wreckshin.

MC Shammers and Quartz Relic joined him.

The evening’s DJ was Jeffmik.

Next up was Magitek: Son of a Glitch and Thugmasta J.

Quartz Relic was in the group too.

A costume contest also took place.

MC Shammers closed the night.

Radar Kilburn  organized and produced the show.

Chris “DJ Cub” Mendez handled the door.

After the event, I started playing music and photographed some more.

The nerdcore event happens once a month.  I’m quite sure the same fun folks had this time will happen the next.

Using Women in Event Flyers

October 10, 2012

After posting the following flyer in the bar, white women with no booty complained about it.

I don’t know the names of the sexy women in the flyer.  I searched “Brazilian woman” on the Internet and came across the image.

Because of complaints, the owner used this image instead for my DJ event.

For another event, I used actress Megan Good.

A jealous white woman asked who was the hooker in flyer.

For an event with two other DJs, I used actress Stacey Dash.

I was told a couple saw the image at the door and headed back to their car.  I forgot if I was told the couple’s race.  Still, I suspect the woman got jealous as the dude wouldn’t admit to popping an erection.

(Yes, I am aware of Stacey’s recent political tweets.  That’s a subject for another blog.)

Then for another event, I used Vanity for a flyer.

That flyer did receive a positive response.

Months later, after reading Marketing To Women  by Marti Barletta, I learned the error of my ways.  First of all, using women as sex objects in flyers sends out the wrong message.  For one thing, it attracts douche bags on the prowl for women who resemble the ones in the flyer.  For another, the flyers say “unattractive ” women aren’t welcomed to your events, “unattractive” women who may be willing to spend good money.

I may have worded that wrong.  What I’m trying to say is that women who don’t resemble the ones in your flyer may not feel welcomed at your event.  Just because a woman don’t resemble Stacey or Megan doesn’t mean she isn’t attractive.

(Oh yea, on another subject, using copyrighted images is a no-no.   As I always knew that, I did it anyway.  Still, I would advise against the practice.)

For my happy hour events, I decided to use photos of the bar’s actual people.  The Mohawk young lady is bartender Shelly Richards.  Orange Tongue is my friend Mindy Weller. The pose was their idea.

Again, I received another positive response.

Keep in  mind, the flyer was aimed at women, not douche bags.  Keep the women happy and most dudes remain happy.

When Happy Hour was moved to Fridays, I again used bar patrons.  That’s Mindy in the middle and that’s me on the left.

My only complaint was I wished I had included a black woman to illustrate the bar’s female diversity.  Then again, the young lady in the glasses is a Latina. (I forgot her and her friend’s name.)

Still, out of all the flyers I placed in the Peacock Room, folks picked this one up the most.

True enough, there are those more advanced than I am on making flyers.  Still, no matter how advanced your graphic skills are, sending out the wrong message makes you look like a douche bag.

Fourth Annual Pirates of the Saint Juans Festival

September 24, 2012

Every September, Sanford hosts the Annual Pirates of the Saint Juans Festival.  This was the 4th year.

Since the beginning, I’ve been the official photographer and videographer.

On the right is founder Moire Wisdom. On the left is her daughter Bevin.

Moire owns Little Fish-Huge Pond, the main headquarters of the event.

Truth be known, as the actual starting time was 8 PM Friday, I didn’t show up until 12.   My Happy Hour DJ gig in Orlando extended longer than expected.

At The West End Trading Company, the Regal performed.

It was Hurry Regal’s (Harry Reagan) birthday.

The next day at The West End, Ron Dillon smoked turkey legs.

The different colors of liquid attracted me to this stand. The pirate is Doug Hanna of Sun Global Beverages.

A costume contest was held for the kids.

This little guy won the contest.

S.L. Rodriguez: a Captain Jack impersonator.

Because of this guy, I later  bought  a delicious,  smoked, turkey leg.

Sam Beck and the Tricky Dickies.

Chuck Culbertson.

A costume contest was held for the adults also.

I didn’t stick around long enough to know who won.

My attention was elsewhere.

Near The West End, I notice the glowing balloon shaped like a whiskey bottle, a balloon advertising Fireball Cinnamon Whisky.

“She” already has this for “her” Facebook profile pic.

Worn out, I soon headed for the automobile and drove home.

Can’t wait for next year. (That’s me with the striped hat.)

Bad Ass DJ Set at The Peacock Room

September 8, 2012

Last Friday night from 7 to 10 PM, I mixed during another Peacock Room’s Friday Happy Hour.  Around 8:30,  I shifted gears from the chill music and played party music.  I never could find the name for my style of DJing, a cross genre of everything inspiring booty shaking.  Yet, someone labeled it for me.  No problems.  So, after my chill set, party music stepped up next.

How bad ass was I?  I’ll let Thadeus McCollum’s Facebook  speak.

Yep, that’s how bad ass I was.

Mr. Pierre’s Hump Day

August 9, 2012

Because I usually DJ on Wednesday nights, I almost didn’t attend Mr. Pierre’s Hump Day, an event involving erotic spoken-word and burlesque dancing.  Yet, because my Wednesday night venue is temporally closed, I headed to The Peacock Room where Hump Day took place.

First came the readings.

Michael Pierre, the host.  Michael is the Vice President of Suzi Fox Fashion, a fashion line creating costumes for burlesque, fetish and theater.

Pappa D (Michael Pappademos):

Matt Kelland, a reader from the UK:

Michael introducing Anna Maya:

Anna’s Ferox shows presents burlesque entertainment in the Orlando area.

Deena Velvet:

Jesse Bradley. Currently, he runs a story telling series every Tuesday at ReUrban Think, located in Downtown Orlando.

Mark Parchman.  He read a story about pegging.  If you don’t know what that is, Google it.

Me.  I hadn’t read poetry in months. It felt good to read it again.

Reno Mussatto. He performed the drums as we read. Currently, he performs in The Bird Dog Bobby Band.

After the reading, two members of The Big Bang Boom Cabaret performed burlesque.

Gams Dee Vyne:

Kissa Von Addams:

In another room, Scarlet Lush and Deena Velvet performed fetish on two dudes.

The battery on my Canon Rebel died.  So, I used the camera setting on my Toshiba camcorder.

Tod Caviness. By reader’s choice in The Orlando Weekly, he was chosen as Orlando’s number one poet.  He read first that night.  Yet,  I didn’t like the picture I took of him reading.

For those of you believing fetish is just a Caucasian thing, think again.  Check out brotha man suckin’ some toes.

The Big Bang Boom Cabaret returned with another performance.

At least for the moment, my DJ venue closing temporarily may have been a blessing in disguise.  Oh well, I know I had fun.

Thick Body Curves

August 8, 2012

Finally hooked up with my favorite soul singer.

Dreamed about her thick body curves for years.

Finally my arms are wrapped around her

…and it feels good.

Realizing she really isn’t all that pretty

without  make-up.

I don’t give a shit.

Just happy she broke-up

with her ugly-assed husband.

The alarm clock rings.

Another one of those fuckin’ dreams.

Last time, it was a curvy movie star.

Ain’t this a bitch?
